The Public Prosecution has clarified that a husband has no ‘right’ over his wife’s wealth without her consent.

In a statement, the Public Prosecution said, ‘The financial liability of the wife is separate and her wealth is protected under Paragraph 4 of Article 37 of the Personal Status Law.’

It added, ‘The law on the rights of the wife over her husband states that the latter cannot interfere with her private wealth. She has the right to freely dispose of it.’

This allows wives to gift, sell or dispose of her wealth as she chooses.
