As part of its efforts to increase green coverings in various governorates of the sultanate, Environment Authority, represented by the Environment Department in Buraimi governorate, has planted 370 wild trees in Wasit area.

The tree planting campaign was held in cooperation with government institutions and members of the local community. It was a part of the national initiative to plant 10mn wild trees which was launched in January with the support of Petroleum Development Oman.

‘The initiative of planting wild trees came after achieving successes in earlier initiatives, and it embodies the partnership and cooperation between the authority and the private sector to preserve the environment and achieve sustainable development,’ stated the authority.

It added that the initiative aims to increase vegetation cover in pastoral and degraded natural areas and raise awareness on the importance of increasing green spaces.

The initiative also looks to rally all segments of society for the preservation of the natural environment.
