The Ministry of Awqaf and Religious Affairs (MARA) has confirmed its keenness to reopen mosques and places of worship that were closed by a decision of the Supreme Committee for dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic.
The ministry said that it will take an appropriate decision regarding the opening of mosques and places of worship according to the prescribed precautionary measures in mid-November 2020.
On September 22, the Supreme Committee expressed its concern about the developments of the pandemic with the rising number of deaths and infections locally and globally.
MARA affirmed that the continuing effects of the pandemic on public health require measures to be taken to protect lives. The ministry will rely on the decision of the Supreme Committee, as well as on the situational report on the spread of COVID-19, before taking any decision on reopening places of worship.
