More than 2,800 health workers have been infected with COVID-19 and two deaths have been reported in the last seven months, the Minister of Health said on Thursday.
Dr Ahmed bin Mohammed al Sa’eedi said, “Some 2,848 medical staff have been infected with COVID-19. Forty-two per cent of them were due to community transfer.”
He said that the death of a 37 year old staff nurse was indeed a big loss.
“We lost one of our daughters. She was working in another governorate and came to Muscat to help us. She was just 37 years old,” Dr Sa’eedi said.
He was referring to Blessy Sam who passed away at the ICU of The Royal Hospital. The nurse from India was working in Sinaw Hospital.
Speaking of donations, the minister said that the total sum of COVID-19 donations stood at RO33,188,162 of which RO10mn has come as a generous contribution by His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik.
