The much-awaited second edition of ISQUIZ, the annual inter-school quiz organised by Indian Schools in Oman, was officially inaugurated by the host school – Indian School Salalah – on September 19.
The competition is held under the aegis of the Board of Directors of Indian Schools in Oman.
ISQUIZ 2020 will be held in four stages. The first prelim will begin on October 1. All the stages – the first prelim, second prelim, mega prelims and grand finale – are to be conducted completely online.
The grand finale, to be held on October 10, will be hosted by Vinay Mudaliar, a celebrity quiz master and the founder of Mindcogs, a prominent quiz venture. The grand finale will be streamed live on YouTube for the public.
A record number of 8,158 entries from students across the Indian schools have been received, indicating the immense popularity of the event.
The inaugural ceremony held virtually was graced by various dignitaries including Dr Baby Sam Saamuel, chairman, Board of Directors, Indian Schools in Oman; Dr Syed Ahsan Jamil, president, School Management Committee, Indian School Salalah; P B Salim, managing director of Noor Gazal; Mark Rix, CEO of Apex Media; and quiz master Mudaliar.
The event was attended by the members of the board, School Management Committees, principals, teachers and participating students.
Dr Saamuel stressed on the importance of competence, resilience and adaptability to change as the needed skills of the hour and highlighted that the quiz is an extension of this resilience shown by the students and faculty of Indian Schools in Oman. He affirmed the board’s vision and commitment to ensure that every student in these schools undergoes transformative learning.
Dr Jamil stated that everyone must improve their knowledge, as all are life-long learners irrespective of age. Using the word ‘QUIZ’ as an acronym of Question Your Inner Zeal, he highlighted what quizzing is all about.
Salim, managing director of Noor Gazal, the mega sponsor of the event, conveyed how delighted he was to be associated with ISQUIZ 2020. He asserted that experimentation and the human instinct to move ahead are the keys to success.
Rix noted in his felicitation that the Muscat Daily is proud to be involved in the endeavour as media partner and in playing an essential role in promoting the biggest quiz in the country. He underlined the importance of developing reading as a serious habit. He also advised the students to maintain humility in victory and defeat. He pointed out how competition is healthy and helps to focus the mind.
The salient features of the quiz were presented to the viewers by Deepak Patankar, principal, Indian School Salalah.
Mudaliar noted that the 2020 edition of ISQUIZ is a truly ‘Digital Avataar’. He declared that ISQUIZ 2020 would be visual-based with innovative rounds. He also exhorted the participants to ‘research more’ and ‘observe more’.
