Owners of commercial and industrial activities that were shut because of the precautionary measures announced by the government have the right not to pay rents for the period they were not operating.
Speaking to reporters on Thursday, H E Dr Ahmed bin Mohammed al Sa’eedi, Minister of Health and member of the Supreme Committee for dealing with COVID-19, said, “Owners of commercial and industrial activities who were asked to close their shops by a decision of the Supreme Committee, have the right not to pay the rent for this closure period.”
It is noted that many businesses, mostly SMEs were affected by the closure.
Those affected also included newspaper printing, hotels, restaurants, barbershops, beauty parlours and gyms among a host of other businesses.
