In a remarkable milestone, Duqm Refinery and Petrochemical Industries Company’s (DRPIC) Duqm Petrochemical Project announced the award of 12 technology licence packages to international technology providers, advancing the project’s front end engineering and design (FEED) progress towards achieving shareholders’ final investment decision in 2021.
At the heart of the project, the world-scale mixed-feed steam cracker was awarded to Lummus Technology LLC, as well as the natural gas liquids (NGL) extraction and C4 block unit technologies including Butadiene, CDMtbe®, and Butene-1 separation.
According to a press statement issued by OQ, the licence package for derivative unit technology has been awarded to UOP LLC, while Scientific Design Company INC has been selected for its ethylene oxide ethylene glycol technologies. DRPIC has selected Univation Technologies LLC for linear low density polyethylene technology, while BasellPolyolefine GmbH has been
selected for high density polyethylene and BasellPoliolefine Italia for polypropylene technologies.
Other international technology licensors selected by DRPIC are LindeAktiengesellschaft (for air separation unit) and Air Liquide Engineering and Conatruction (for syngas). OQ will provide shareholder proprietary technology for both the ethylene and propylene derivative OXO units.
Dr Salim al Huthaili, CEO of DRPIC said, “We are glad to reach this milestone of the project despite the challenges of COVID-19. The creativity and agility of the project team is remarkable. We are now looking forward to progressing towards the next stage in the project which includes working with the reputable international technology licensors to finalise the FEED and strive to achieve final investment decision next year.”
He said DRPIC is happy to report the good progress of the refinery construction despite the COVID-19 challenges. “We thank our shareholders, Kuwait Petroleum International (KPI), OQ and project partners for their commitment and continued support. Once completed, Duqm Petrochemicals Complex should significantly improve DRPIC’s contributions to our shareholders.”
Shane Macnamara, Duqm Petrochemical Project director said, “Due to the increasing global demand for petrochemical products, Duqm Petrochemical Project will become a significant player in the region, benefiting from its strategic location on the Oman eastern sea board with direct access to international markets. Working with long established technology licensors enables us to develop a world-class project empowering the future development of downstream petrochemical industries in the Special Economic Zone of Duqm”.
