The community in Oman has become more keen to adhere to the preventive measures and is now far more aware about the COVID-19 pandemic, H E Sayyid Hamoud bin Faisal al Busaidi, Minister of Interior and chairman of the Supreme Committee said.
“Omani society has become more adherent and dedicated to precautionary measures. This accomplishment constitutes a successful approach to live with the virus in a safe manner,” he said on Sunday.
The minister thanked His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik for royal patronage to the Supreme Committee and appreciated all members of society for the high level of commitment during the nationwide lockdown and the night movement ban.
H E Sayyid Hamoud said the ultimate goal of the decisions taken by the Supreme Committee is to protect everyone in society from COVID-19.
The minister said the committee takes decisions in accordance with specific well-studied data submitted to the panel by the specialised teams from across different domains and sectors. “The prime aim of the decisions is to protect individuals and the community against the COVID-19 disease and alleviate its negative impacts,” he said.
“The decision to lockdown the governorates and introduce night restrictions was to reduce the movement of individuals so that the cases can be brought down, especially during Eid,” he said.
He thanked the Royal Oman Police and Sultan’s Armed Forces for the outstanding efforts taken in implementing the decisions.
“We also thank the frontline healthcare workers for their efforts in combating the pandemic,” he said.
