NYC launches Youth Excellence Award

20 Jul 2020

The National Youth Commission (NYC) has opened applications for the Youth Excellence Award 2020 for individuals, youth initiatives, and youth organisations.

Youth Excellence Award is an annual felicitation given by the National Youth Committee to honour Omani youth on Omani Youth Day, which is celebrated on October 26, every year.

The award aims to encourage young people to develop their skills in order to build a conscious, responsible, creative, and proactive generation. ‘In addition, it instills an appreciation and celebration of Omani youth’s contribution to sustainable development and a sense of community belonging,’ stated NYC.

NYC is keen to spot creative talent in youth and honour them by participating in Omani Youth Day, said Nasr al Yahyai, member of NYC and head of Omani Youth Day 2020.

“This award encourages Omani youth to be creative and innovative in various fields, provide care to innovators, and utilise the talents of the largest number of creative young people in various fields.”

The award targets three categories, Oman youth, youth initiatives and youth institutions and represents several categories like entrepreneurship, education, media, culture, science, sports, heritage, and environment, with special conditions for progress in each field.

Evaluation of the awards will be done in three stages. In the first stage, evaluation and screening will be carried out by the NYC according to criteria specified for the award and announced in the registration form.

The second stage will evaluate the participants in each category through an external jury and the third stage will include interviews and final presentations, which will also be evaluated by an external jury.
