Six public parks in Wilayat of Sohar will see installation of modern recreational games and rides with the signing of a Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC) between OQ, Sohar Municipality and Jusoor Foundation.
The RO50,000 budget is funded by OQ, within its social investment projects through Jusoor Foundation, the non-profit social responsibility arm of Sohar Aluminium, Vale and OQ.
The signed MoC include the funding for the supply and installation of recreational games for a number of parks in Sohar including the Silver Jubilee Park, Hambar Park, Al Hadhira Park, Sawaihra Park, Al Owainat Park and Al Minyal Park, in cooperation and coordination with Sohar Municipality.
The project aims to create a healthy atmosphere for families and visitors to these parks, which is expected to boost the tourist and recreational attractions of Sohar.
The signing ceremony was held in the presence of Sheikh Ali bin Ahmed bin Mashari al Shamsi, Acting Governor of North Batinah and chairman of the Board of Directors of Jusoor.
The event was attended by Eng Salim bin Hamad al Kindi, director general of Sohar Municipality, and Dr Hilal bin Abdullah al Hanai, advisor to the CEO of the Refineries and Petrochemicals at OQ and representatives of the local community at Jusoor Foundation.
Dr Hinai said, “The project of the development of public parks in the Wilayat of Sohar reflects the cooperation between OQ and Jusoor Foundation in implementing development and service projects that serve a large segment of both citizens and residents. Undoubtedly, it will add up to the range of vital services provided by the company, as part of the company’s commitment to social responsibility in various service sectors. It translates the real partnership between the government and the private sector.”
“Provision of the recreational games in the parks will have a positive impact on the visitors, especially children and it will hopefully encourage domestic tourism coming from the different wilayats of North Batinah Governorate,” Dr Hinai added.
Commenting on the project, Eng Khalifa bin Darwish al Shibli, acting director of the Afforestation and Gardens Department at Sohar Municipality, said, “We thank Jusoor Foundation and the supporting companies (OQ, Sohar Aluminium and Vale) for their continuous support in community service. The social responsibility commitment adopted by these companies not only covered many aspects of service and development in North Batinah Governorate but also exceeded the governorate’s boundaries to reach other governorates.”
Eng Khalifa al Shibli, added, “We are pleased with this partnership with Jusoor Foundation and OQ Company, which was preceded, years ago, by cooperation with OQ for the renovation and development of Falaj Al Qaba’il Park, which has become a destination for many families and residents with their children, especially those working in the companies of Sohar Port and Sohar Industrial City.
