To spread awareness on astronomy and to develop an interest in astrophotography among people in Oman, Oman Astronomical Society (OAS) will hold an Astrophotography Exhibition in October. The theme of exhibition this year is ‘Sun, Our Star’ and the last date for submitting the photos is July 23, 2020.
Speaking to Muscat Daily, Majed Mohammed al Farei, an astrophotographer at OAS, said that the society had organised the first Astrophotography Exhibition in 2018, which was a major success. “The exhibition aims to spread the culture of astronomical photography among members of the society and the public, especially astrophotography related to the sun, which also shows the beauty of the Sultanate of Oman. The pictures can be of various solar phenomena like the eclipse, sunrise and sunset.”
Farei added that the aim is also to spread awareness and knowledge on the use photography equipment to enhance astrophotography.
Talking about the conditions of participation, he said that images should be taken from Oman and must be clicked by the participant themselves. “A maximum of four images of high quality can be submitted. Additions to images, such as frame, signature, date, time, etc. are not accepted.”
He added that Oman Astronomical Society and Photographic Society of Oman may use the images for non-commercial purposes, including printing, publishing or any other ways of visual communication.
“Photos are accepted only on the link: https://bit.ly/34jCwLA. A technical committee will be set up to sort out the accepted photos and the committee’s decision will be final. Participation is an acknowledgment by the participant of all terms and conditions,” Farei added.
