Penalty for not wearing face mask to go up

2 Jul 2020

The authorities in Oman are evaluating the possibility of intensifying inspections and increasing fines for violations.

H E Dr. Ahmed Al Futaisi, Minister of transport and member of the Supreme Committee, on Thursday said that penalties and inspections are continuing on a daily basis by the Royal Oman Police. “We are currently examining the possibility of intensifying the inspections.”

He added, “The penalty for not wearing face masks will be increased because the current RO20 appears to be non-deterrent.”

Suspending commercial and industrial activities is very possible, not only at the national level but globally, he said.

Commenting on aviation in the country, he said Oman Air, like other international airlines, has been greatly affected. “The losses are not big, but since the beginning of the crisis an emergency committee was formed to reduce losses. We have been able, thankfully, to reduce the operational costs for 2020 by more than 43% of the approved budget, which has helped us in reducing the losses. The number of Oman Air hosts and hostess and pilots has been reduced.”
