MoAA arts competition winners declared

The Ministry of Arts Affairs (MoAA) has announced the winners of the art competition which encouraged people staying at home during the current pandemic.

The competition, which was opened to all nationalities, saw a healthy participation with 327 entries vying for the top slot. Announced sometime back, the competition sought to encourage people from different age groups and cultures to practise and discover their artistic skills while staying in their homes.

The competition included different categories and artistic fields for different age groups, from fine arts, photography, theatre and cinema, to music, folklore and traditional arts.

From among the 327 entries, 136 were for fine arts, 31 in folk music and 25 in theatre, apart from other fields.

Dr Suad bint Mohammed al Lawatiyah, Minister of Arts Affairs, said, “The ministry aims to promote arts in the sultanate through providing support and attention to talented artists and to discover creative talent in all age groups.”

She added, “The competition was aimed to encourage people to stay at home during this period while utilising their time to hone their artistic skills. Throughout the competition period, the ministry held lectures, workshops and training courses in different arts on various social media channels.”
