Come July 1, Oman will roll out a mandatory Tax Card for corporate companies including SMEs, a system that provides an identification number to be used on all correspondence, bills, documents, and contracts.
The Oman Tax Authority, in a decision (27/2020) issued on 18 May 2020, mandated the introduction of the tax card for all taxpayers in the sultanate.
‘Tax Card is a proof of registration for any taxpayer with the Tax Authority. It is valid for two years and the issuance fee is RO10. A tax payer can apply for the Tax Card through the Tax Authority’s website,’ a statement from Tax Authority said.
Furthermore, all documents relating to transactions by a person with a government entity should be accompanied by a copy of the Tax Card.
The government entity is obliged to notify the tax authority of the non-compliance of this provision within the time stipulated in the Executive Regulations.
