27 Jun 2020

The Ministry of Health (MoH) on Saturday confirmed 919 new cases of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19), taking the total 36,953.

Among the newly diagnosed cases, 517 were Omanis and 402 expatriates. The ministry conducted 2,508 tests on suspected cases in the last 24 hours, of which 919 turned positive.

‘The number of new recoveries is 881, taking the total to 20,363 while the number of deaths has reached 159,’ an MoH statement said. As of Saturday, a total of 431 patients were admitted in hospitals while 113 were in ICU.

The recovery curve has been on the up in Oman since the recovery period was cut short from earlier 14 to 10 days, taking the total past 20,000 mark on Saturday. Muscat now has over 25,000 cases with Seeb (8,945) being the most affected, followed by Muttrah (7,027) and Bausher (6,950).

MoH calls upon all to adhere to the isolation procedures by staying in an isolated room with an attached toilet and serving the isolated person from outside the room as instructed. It said that social distancing also helps curb the spread of the virus.

MoH advises all citizens and residents to keep on washing hands with water and soap, avoiding touching the face, nose, mouth, and eyes and following healthy habits when coughing and sneezing.
