‘Call for rapid testing methods need to be reviewed’

26 Jun 2020

The call to use rapid testing methods for COVID-19 screening in Oman need to be reviewed, the Ministry of Health has said. The sultanate uses the internationally approved PCR testing for COVID-19 cases whose accuracy exceeds 98 per cent.

“There are pressures to use the rapid scan devices but they need to be reviewed, as we use the internationally approved PCR examination,” H E Dr Ahmed bin Mohammed al Sa’eedi, Minister of Health, said on Thursday.

“Oman still uses accredited examination devices whose accuracy exceeds 98 per cent,” he added.

He said that there are calls to use the rapid examination devices but “they need to be reviewed” first.
