No plans to reopen mosques soon

25 Jun 2020

There are no plans yet to reopen mosques for the faithfuls, Minister of Health said on Thursday.

The members of the Supreme Committee to deal with COVID-19 are aware of the request to open mosques, however, preserving people’s lives remains the priority, said H E Dr Ahmed bin Mohammed al Sa’eedi, Minister of Health.
Speaking to reporters on Thursday, he said, “There are no plans to reopen mosques soon. The virus is still very active.”

H E Dr Sa’eedi said that mosques, which have been closed since March due to the coronavirus outbreak, attract large gatherings which is dangerous.

“It is too early to announce a date to reopen mosques. Any place that has large gatherings is dangerous,” he said.
