Salalah Award for Water and Wastewater winners declared

Three projects which aimed to find innovative solutions to the challenges facing the water and wastewater sector have been declared as winners of the Salalah Award for Water and Wastewater by The Research Council (TRC). 

The Salalah Award for Water and Wastewater  is an initiative organised by TRC and sponsored by Salalah Sanitary Drainage Services Company, in which 64 researchers and innovators participated for the first edition of the award.

Following the final evaluation on June 3, the first place went to ‘Smart microbial desalination for wastewater treatment and electricity recovery with real-time monitoring’ by Dr Abdullah al Mamun, Dr Tahirih Jafari and Eng Ali Mousawi from Sultan Qaboss University. 

The second place was shared by ‘Wastewater treatment by electrocoagulation process’ by Eng Emad Abdullah Alobiadoon from Salalah Methanol Company and ‘Activated carbon from sludge for waste treatment and desalination’ by Dr Wafa al Rawahi, Hanadi al Ameri, Marwa al Riyami and Maryam al Hashmi from Higher College of Technology.

The winner will receive a grant of RO4,000, while the second place winners will receive RO2,000.

The Salalah Award for Water and Wastewater aimed to find innovative ideas and solutions on the challenges facing the water sector and convert them into products and services that can be marketed in the local and global market.
