2,907 tested, 866 turn positive

The Ministry of Health (MoH) on Sunday confirmed 866 new cases of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19), taking the total to 16,882.  

Among the newly diagnosed cases, 319 are Omanis and 547 expatriates. The ministry conducted 2,907 tests on suspected cases, of which 866 turned positive, showing a positivity rate of 30 per cent.   

After Muscat, Al Wusta continues to report a spike in number of daily cases, with 73 recorded on Sunday, the same as Saturday. Seeb (3,871) and Bausher (3,357) are fast catching up with Muttrah (4,808) which still has the highest number of total cases.  

‘The overall number of recoveries is 3,451 while the number of deaths is 75,’ an MoH statement said. As of Sunday, 290 patients were admitted in hospitals while 75 patents were in ICU. 

MoH calls upon all to adhere to the isolation procedures by staying in an isolated room with an attached toilet and serving the isolated person from outside the room as instructed. It said that social distancing also helps curb the spread of the virus. 

MoH advises all citizens and residents to keep on washing hands with water and soap, avoiding touching the face, nose, mouth, and eyes and following healthy habits when coughing and sneezing.
