The latest weather chart and the analysis of the National Center for Multi Hazards Early Warning Centre indicates that the tropical depression located over the Republic of Yemen, near western parts of Dhofar governorate, has an estimated surface wind speed around the centre between 15 and 23 knots and that heavy thundershowers are expected to continue over Dhofar governorate.
In its latest alert, the Public Authority for Civil Aviation (PACA) said, “Heavy thundershowers are expected to continue over Dhofar governorate and are likely to concentrate over the western parts and surrounding desert of the governorate. Rainfall of approximately 100-200mm is predicted during next 24 hours and will be associated with fresh, strong winds.”
It added that flooding is expected over low coastal areas and an increase in wadis flow with reduction in horizontal visibility. “Sea conditions will continue to be rough along the governorates of Dhofar (wave height of 3-4metres) and along Al Wusta and South Sharqiyah (2metres),” the alert said.
