Midday break for construction workers to be ensured

1 Jun 2020

Workers at construction sites will get  a three-hour respite from the sweltering summer heat during midday, the Ministry of Manpower has announced.

In a statement, the Ministry of Manpower has declared stopping of all work at construction sites and open areas from 12:30pm till 3:30pm during the months of June, July, and August, to protect the health and safety of construction workers.

This break is in accordance with Article 16-3 of the Labour Law, which states that workers cannot work in construction or open sites under high temperatures during midday in June, July and August. Violating companies are liable to penalties, the ministry said, adding that inspections at work sites would be intensified to ensure that establishments enforce the mid-day break.
