1,000 mark crossed for new cases in Oman

31 May 2020

The Ministry of Health (MoH) on Sunday confirmed 1,014 new cases of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19), taking the total to 11,437.

Among the newly diagnosed cases 371 were Omanis and 643 expatriates.

With seven deaths reported on Sunday, the total casualties in Oman reached 49 while the overall number of recoveries was 2,682, an MoH statement said.

The virus is rapidly spreading in Muscat Governorate, with 802 new cases reported on Sunday. With a spurt in new cases in Seeb and Bausher, 330 and 285 respectively, the two wilayats are likely to take over from Muttrah as the major hotspots for the disease.

MoH calls upon all to adhere to the isolation procedures by staying in an isolated room with an attached toilet and serving the isolated person from outside the room as instructed. It said that social distancing also helps curb the spread of the virus.

MoH advises all citizens and residents to keep on washing hands with water and soap, avoiding touching the face, nose, mouth, and eyes and following healthy habits when coughing and sneezing.
