16 May 2020

The Ministry of Health (MoH) issued a clarification regarding social media posts on the issue of treatment costs of expatriates. It assured that the government will pay for treatment if a resident cannot afford it for any reason.

The social media posts (including a Facebook page in Bengali) created confusion on the issue.

According to the clarification, resident who has a sponsor, the sponsor will bear the costs of treatment.

Also, the resident who has health insurance, insurance will bear the costs of treatment and this issue is now being discussed with the insurance companies.

‘If a resident cannot pay for treatment for any reason, the Oman’s government will ensure that he or she gets treatment,’ the statement said.

‘We call on everyone not to share rumours and take the information from reliable official sources,’ the MOH said.
