Gathering in Ramadan and negligence by a few companies and sponsors have led to increase in the number of COVID-19 cases.
H E Dr Ahmed bin Mohammed al Sa’eedi, Minister of Health, said that gatherings continued in the month of Ramadan. “Most of them caused an increase in the number of infections,” he said.
“Also, some citizens don’t take it seriously. A citizen with symptoms of COVID-19 decided to have a normal life, which caused the transmission of infection to his mother and sister who had kidney failure due to the virus. He transmitted the infection to 17 other people,” H E Dr Sa’eedi said.
He added a week ago there was a wedding, which was attended by 150 people and no one reported it to authorities.
H E Dr Sa’eedi warned of severe penalty for violators. “The new infectious disease law has a sentence of one year in prison for offenders and non-compliance.”
