The Royal Oman Police has said it has increased its patrols across the country to stop gatherings in public in a step to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
Brigadier Said bin Sulaiman al Asmi, Director General of Operations, ROP, said that families should avoid any gatherings or activities, especially during Ramadan and Eid al Fitr.
“We receive tip-offs 24X7 about social gatherings and such cases are dealt with immediately,” he said.
He added that ROP has taken measures to prevent gatherings by both citizens and residents in public places including beaches. “Public must strictly adhere to the decisions taken by the Supreme Committee. Reporting the violators is a social and ethical duty,” Brigadier Asmi said.
“We call upon the public to contact us if the observe any gathering activities. They can reach us through 9999, 24569186 or 24569183,” he added.
However, he said that it is not possible to make life come to a standstill. “We know that we cannot, but we call upon all to be more responsible and don’t wait for the authorities to take action,” he said.
