Ramadan, the month synonymous with the spirit of giving, has lived up to its expectations with online donations for charities witnessing an all-time high collection since the portal’s launch in 2009. The sultanate’s one-stop donations portal (donate.om) raised more than RO500,000 in the first 18 days of the holy month.
The highest collection for the month of Ramadan so far was recorded in 2019 with a collection of RO428,621.
The total donations since the beginning of this year amounted to over RO900,000, taking the total donations since the launch of the portal to over RO5mn.
Under the theme of 700 times, the Ministry of Technology and Communications continues the promotional campaign for the donations portal, which started since the beginning of the holy month and aims to encourage online giving through the portal.
The portal, which is managed by MTC, includes 31 charitable organisations that serve a number of charity areas including, motherhood and childhood, environment, zakat and charity, building mosques and Quran schools in addition to social care for people with special needs, orphans, the sick, and families with low incomes.
This year, the portal features a number of accounts for some charitable organisations that collect donations to help those affected by the coronavirus pandemic, especially employees and small business owners, whose activities have been suspended temporarily as part of the measures to address the spread of the virus.
