9 May 2020

The Ministry of Health(MoH) on Saturday confirmed 112 new cases of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19), taking the total to 3,224. Among the newly diagnosed cases 52 are Omanis and 60 expatiates, MoH said.
The overall number of recoveries in Oman has reached 1,068, an addition of 43 over Friday.

In three days – Thursday to Saturday – four death cases were reported. On Saturday, MoH announced the death of an 80-year-old Omani woman which raises the number of COVID-19 deaths registered in the Sultanate to 17. On Thursday and Friday, a 26 year old, a 66 year old and another 43 year old, all expatriates, died of COVID-19.

On Thursday, H E Dr Ahmed bin Mohammed al Sa’eedi, Minister of Health, said there is an observable decline in number of positive cases in the isolated area in Muttrah. “Many expatiates in Muttrah who did not have the right conditions for home isolation (social distancing) have been shifted to institutional isolation facilities,” he said.

MoH advises all citizens and residents to keep on washing hands with water and soap, avoiding touching the face, nose, mouth, and eyes and following the healthy habits when coughing and sneezing.

MoH also calls upon all to adhere to the isolation procedures by staying in an isolated room with an attached toilet and serving the isolated person from outside the room as instructed. It said that social distancing also helps curb the spread of the virus.
