Almost 4000 Omanis have flown back home till the end of April, who were brought back home aboard special flights from different countries. Other Omanis, meanwhile, preferred to remain in their respective countries when the Sultanate launched the evacuation flights.
According to Government Communication Centre statistics, 700 citizens came from the US and Canada, while the rest came from London (67), Morroco (130), Holland (32), Turkey (75), Tunisia (17), Cyprus (19), Jordan (456), Iran (750), Kuwait and Bahrain (total 62), Egypt (71), Saudi Arabia (166), India (111), Thailand (40), Pakistan (147), Tanzania (137), Australia (611), New Zealand (210) and 126 others who came back from different countries since the beginning of the crisis.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs in conjunction with other state institutions oversaw the flights as many were stranded abroad after global air travel was halted as part of precautions against the COVID-19 pandemic.
