Suwaiq to be centre for livestock trade

29 Apr 2020

Wilayat of Suwaiq will be the hub for livestock and meat industry as Oman implements an integrated Central Livestock and Slaughterhouse project.

The Ministry of Regional Municipalities and Water Resources (MRMWR) announced the handover of a one-million square metre land for the implementation of the Central Livestock and Slaughterhouse project in Suwaiq.

‘It was handed over to the investor and the project will be significant for the meat industry as well as contribute to finding new sale outlets and stimulate commercial activities,’ the statement from MRMWR read.

‘Most importantly, the project will support the small and mid-sized enterprises operating in the meat sector,’ it added

The multi-phased project is in line with the Ministry’s aspirations towards developing the municipal work and to ensure integration among the food security projects and making the Sultanate a hub for import and export activity.

According to the ministry, the Wilayat of Suwaiq has been selected for the project due to its location which connects many governorates in the sultanate and the recent operation of Suwaiq commercial port.

The port is expected to contribute to boosting economic activity and receiving many goods including cattle.
