A group of volunteers is distributing 500 iftar meals every day in the holy month of Ramadan. Started with an aim to help families affected by Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19), Al Ithar Voluntary Group has launched the Ramadan initiative under the slogan ‘Mn khiarak saad geark’.
Speaking to Muscat Daily, Sakina al Hosani, head team of Al Ithar Voluntary Group, said, “Every day, we prepare about 500 iftar meals and distribute them from 4-6pm to families affected financially by the outbreak of the coronavirus, families with limited incomes and some workers.”
Sakina said that the group has been distributing iftar meals since 2014 in Muscat. “Our group comprises eight Omani youths. This year’s campaign began in Ma’abela in the wilayat of Seeb. We cooperate with some Omani families in preparing the meals. We prepare a Ramadan basket that includes foodstuff such as rice, oil, flour, etc. We distributed them to more than 250 families.”
Sakina added, “We support families who are into making food items, incense, perfumes and clothing by promoting their stuff on social media platforms like Facebook, WhatsApp, Snapchat and Twitter. We sponsor about 400 orphans and play their rent of their homes, pay their electricity and water bills, and look after their food needs.”
This year’s campaign aims to reduce the suffering of some families and spread love and social solidarity among all members of society.
Talking about the future plans, she said, “We hope to distribute iftar meals in other governorates of the sultanate next year. Those interested to participate in our activities can reach us at 94594689 or Instagram/Twitter via ethar_group.”
