27 Apr 2020

Our Correspondent  Muscat  As a result of the COVID-19 outbreak in the sultanate, Muscat Municipality has issued new guidelines for shoppers and sellers entering Central Market for Vegetables and Fruits in Mawaleh.

Under the new guidelines, each person entering the market must wear a mask and gloves. The municipality has also set an age limit for visitors to the market. ‘Only people between the ages of 12 and 60 years will be allowed inside the market,’ it stated.

The civic body had reopened the central market partially on Saturday (April 25) after closing it for a day. The retail sale at the market will resume from April 29. The municipality said that the working hours in the retail market will be from 12pm to 8pm throughout the week. On Fridays, the market will be closed for maintenance and sterilisation.

Visitors cannot enter the market with vehicles. ‘Vehicles will have to be parked in the parking lot which has a capacity to accommodate 350 vehicles. The parking lot is on the western side and free shopping carts are provided for visitors to transport belongings,’ the civic body stated.
