The Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries (MoAF) has announced that it is continuing the campaign to control desert locusts in the villages of the wilayat of Mahdah in Buraimi governorate. Officials specialised in the field are focusing on locust-infested areas of the governorate.
The ministry has urged keepers of livestock and honeybees to take caution, and not graze animals for ten days. MoAF began its campaign to control desert locusts in the governorates of North and South Batinah on an area of 346ha from April 17 to 23.
The campaigns are being held in the wilayats of Barka, Rustaq, Al Awabi, Mussanah, Nakhal, Suwaiq, and Khabourah. MoAF has confirmed that locust infestation has spread abundantly as a result of heavy rain in the sultanate.
The ministry is making efforts to control locust hotspots, reduce their reproduction and damage to crops.
