127 violations of workers’ rights registered: Trade union

The General Federation of Oman Trade Unions (GFOTU) has recorded 19 violations of workers’ rights during the period April 19 to April 23. The union confirmed that the total number of violations registered has reached 127 so far. 

The violations included forcing workers to go on unpaid leave, deduction of wages, deduction of quarantine periods from annual leave and notification of dismissal.

GFOTU confirmed that it received reports from different parts of the Sultanate. Muscat was the highest  with 95 reports, followed by North Batinah (12), South  Batinah (5), four in Dhahirah, three in Buraimi, three in oil concession areas, two in Dakhliyah, two in Dhofar and one in North Sharqiyah. 

The federation called on the private sector to adhere to the decisions of the Supreme Committee for dealing with COVID-19 and to refrain from laying off the national workforce.

The union continues to provide its services online throughout the working days in Ramadan, from 9am  to 2pm.
