Construction work on US$500mn iron manufacturing facility began on Wednesday in the presence of senior government officials at Salalah Free Zone (SFZ). 

In a tweet posted through his official twitter handle Ali Tabouk, CEO, SFZ, said, “With the blessings from Almighty, the construction work on 250,000 square meter manufacturing facility by National Steel Company starts today.” 

He said the total investments earmarked for the project is around US$500mn, and the proposed plant will have the capacity to produce 85,000 tons annually of various iron products. A majority of the produce from the facility, around 65 per cent, would be exported to regional markets.
