Oman’s 1,614 cases lowest in GCC

Oman’s 1,614 Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) cases are the lowest in the GCC countries, according to the GCC Statistical Center.

Saudi Arabia tops the list with 12,772 cases, followed by the UAE (8,238), Qatar (7,141), Kuwait (2,248) and Bahrain (1,026) till April 22.

106 new cases in Oman, says MoH

Oman’s Ministry of Health (MoH) on Wednesday announced registration of 106 new COVID-19 cases, taking the total to 1,614. Oman registered its first two cases on February 24. Of the 106 patients, 35 are Omanis and 71 expatriates. 

‘The total number of cases in Oman till date are 1,614. Altogether, 238 patients have recovered and eight have died,’ MoH said. Of the eight deaths, two were Omanis, while the rest were expatriates.

 

New COVID-19 testing centre for expats in Ghala

The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) in Muscat is continuing to test everyone including expatriates for free for Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19), the Ministry of Health has said. A new health facility for the purpose has been provided for expatriates in Ghala.

The ministry stated that tests (swab test) for expatriates who show symptoms of the disease will be conducted at the facility located next to Hotel al Madinah Holiday in Ghala. The screening will be held from 9am to 1pm every day except Fridays.

The DGHS in Muscat is also continuing screening for residents who show symptoms at the ministry’s Medical Fitness Centres (medical visa) in Darsait, Rusayl and Al Sharadi from 9am to 4pm.

Sterilisation campaign in Dhofar

Dhofar Municipality is conducting a campaign to sterilise and disinfect various sites in Dhofar Governorate. The campaign is being organised under the patronage of H E Sayyid Mohammed bin Sultan al Busaidi, Minister of State and Governor of Dhofar.

 

2,000 face shields

InnoTech, an Omani start up has manufactured 2,000 face shields and provided it to the World Health Organization in Oman as part of measures to control the spread of the virus.

The Public Authority for Craft Industries is organising a competition for handicraft sector to support talent among the youth during this period.
