The Ministry of Manpower (MoM) has negotiated with 13 firms to stop laying off their Omani employees.
The ministry said that the committee tasked with reviewing issues related to the termination of national workforce in the private sector held its third meeting under the chairmanship of H E Hamad bin Khamis al Amri, Undersecretary for Labour Affairs in the Ministry of Manpower.
The committee had discussions with 17 companies who were trying to dismiss Omani employees. Thirteen firms agreed to back down on their decisions after discussions with the committee.
The committee has asked the remaining four companies to withdraw their decision pertaining to the dismissal of Omani employees for non-compliance with the decisions of the Supreme Committee for dealing COVID-19 pandemic as well as violating Article 1 of the Ministerial Decision No 124/2020, which stipulates that companies should inform the committee three months prior to the date of termination.
