The Ministry of Manpower is continuously in talks with businesses to stop them from laying off their employees.
The ministry has negotiated with 13 firms to stop laying off their Omani employees. The ministry said that the committee tasked with reviewing issues related to the termination of national workforce in the private sector held its third meeting under the chairmanship of Hamad bin Khamis al Amri, Under-Secretary at the Ministry of Manpower for Labour Affairs.
The committee had discussions with 17 companies who were trying to dismiss Omani employees. Of the 17, 13 firms agreed to back down on their decisions after discussion with the committee.
The committee has asked the remaining four companies to withdraw their decision pertaining to the dismissal of Omani employees for non-compliance with the decisions of the Supreme Committee for dealing COVID-19 pandemic as well as violating Article (1) of the ministerial decision No 124/2020, which stipulates that companies should inform the committee three months prior to the date of termination.
The committee also called on the General Federation of Oman Trade Unions and the Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry to urge employers to abide by the decisions of the Supreme Committee.
