New parking boards to replace old ones

19 Apr 2020

Muscat Municipality will be replacing old parking boards at various locations in the city with new ones soon. The board will have clearer instructions on ways to pay the parking fee.

Speaking to Muscat Daily, a Muscat Municipality official said, “At present, the paid parking system is suspended due to the effects of Novel Coronavirus. So, we thought of utilising the time to instal these new boards. The project was in the pipeline for a while now.”

When asked the difference between the old and new parking boards, the official said, “Many first-time users enquire on how to pay parking fee via SMS. This board will explain in detail the process of sending the SMS.”

The official explained, “To book, you have to key in the plate number, car series, and the duration with spaces in between. The time period has to be in minutes (30, 60, 90 or 120) and the message has to be send to 90091. The minimum booking period is 30 minutes.”

Motorists can either keep sending messages after every 30 minutes or more (60, 90 or 120 minutes).

“The money will keep getting deducted from the telecom provider’s account based on the duration the motorist sends.” The official said that the new boards will have mention of payment through the Baladiyeti app and the option of acquiring parking permits.

“The monthly parking permits cost RO15 for one zone and RO20 for the whole of Muscat. The monthly permit can be bought from the municipality portal, the Baladiyeti app or from our offices.”
