A charitable team comprising 100 volunteers has collected RO27,000 in just a few days as part of its initiative to help families with limited income or who have lost their jobs.
Called the Barka Charitable Team, the initial target of the team was to collect RO20,000 and help about 1,100 families.
Speaking to Muscat Daily, Ibrahim Abdullah al Wahaibi, deputy head of Barka Charitable Team, said “We launched the initiative just a few days ago. Our aim was to collect RO20,000 but we succeeded in collecting RO27,000. People were quick to respond to our call to help these families who could not make ends meet. We collected the money in cooperation with the Ministry of Awqaf and Religious Affairs.”
The outbreak of COVID-19 in the sultanate has affected many families, said Wahaibi and the idea is to help them find a livelihood. “We will start distributing food supplies and vouchers at the end of the week to help more families. We will also hold workshops to train them.”
