11 Apr 2020 By MOHAMMED TAHA

The sultanate will produce medicines such as hydroxychloroquine to counter the outbreak of Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19), according to Ali bin Mohammed Tabuk, chief executive officer of Salalah Free Zone.

Tabuk said, “Felix Pharmaceutical Industries has obtained a good practice certificate for the manufacturing of the secondary packaging unit, which will be operational in the coming weeks. The company will also provide medicines to counter the outbreak of the coronavirus, such as hydroxychloroquine and provide strategic stocks in the  sultanate.”

The Felix Complex for Pharmaceutical Industries project will become a leading centre in the field of pharmaceutical manufacturing in the Middle East and North Africa and will manufacture multiple types of pharmaceuticals.  The project is part of the Tanfeedh programme.

The Salalah Free Zone will continue to attract foreign  investments.  “We will announce a tender on April 15 to grant usufruct rights to develop an 800,000sq m land. It will be divided into two sites in Salalah Free Zone.

“The tender will be developed for building an integrated residential city for workers equipped with recreational services such as cinema, playground, restaurants and gyms for more than 100,000 employees.”
