H E Dr NayefFalah Mubarak al Hajraf, secretary general of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) held a video conference on Thursday with senior officials of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank to discuss the economic implications of the COVID-19 pandemic on the GCC states.
During the meeting, they reviewed the precautionary measures taken by the GCC states to limit the spread of the disease, the initiatives and measures taken to support the private sector, especially small and medium enterprises and economic activities affected by the precautionary measures taken to curb the pandemic, according to a statement issued by the GCC Secretariat.
The IMF and the World Bank senior officials presented during the meeting a review of the expected effects of the pandemic on the world economy and the countries of the region in the short, medium and long term, and the scenarios expected for their impact on economic growth, small and medium enterprises, employment opportunities, and the economic and social sectors.
