H E Sheikh Abdullah bin Mohammed al Salmi, Minister of Awqaf and Religious Affairs, has issued a Ministerial Decision to establish a fund to support health services.
The fund, called ‘The Endowment Fund to Support Health Services’, abides by the provisions of endowment funds.
It will function under the supervision of the Ministry of Awqaf and Religious Affairs (MARA).
The fund aims to attract donations for health services and to enhance individual and community health. The fund also aims to invest the returns on its investments to finance treatment, establish and operate hospitals and health centres, and buy medicines, ambulances and medical equipment.
The fund has already generated many reactions among citizens on social media with around 300 people expressing their joy. Among the contributors, Said Nasser al Mahrouqi has donated RO25,000.
Another citizen, Khalid al Omari said, “I would like to thank our government for responding to citizens’ demands to establish the fund. The fund will help the efforts to support health services in the sultanate.”
Abdullah al Mukhaini, a citizen said, “We also wish to establish treatment centres for autistic patients, people with special needs, and the elderly to reduce the burden on their families.”
OCCI supports private sector
The Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OCCI) has announced it will support the Job Security Fund with RO1mn.
OCCI will also allot another RO1mn to the chamber’s fund to support the private sector to mitigate the effects of the coronavirus.
