As part of its voluntary contributions to keep Oman clean, Sur Club for Cycling, in cooperation with Sur Municipality, launched an initiative to clean up the wilayats of South Sharqiyah.
Speaking to Muscat Daily Nasser Musallam al Araimi, head of Sur Club for Cycling, said, “We are planning to conduct ten cleaning campaigns in the southeastern part of the country this year. We started the campaign in Ras al Hadd in South Sharqiyah in early February.” He added, “The second campaign was held in Afta area in the wilayat of Sur. The volunteers collected 60 bags full of waste in that event. The third event was held in Wadi Tawi on March 7 to celebrate the world and Arab Water Day.”
The campaign included cleaning aflaj and some areas of the village, he said.
Araimi said his team’s aim is to spread awareness on cleanliness, promote tourist sites in the area, and raise importance about sports among the members of local community.
Araimi said that Sur Club for Cycling will continue to organise similar events to promote domestic tourism and create awareness on health and cleanliness. “We hope that the cleaning campaigns will be conducted in all the wilayats of the sultanate in order to preserve the beauty of Oman. We call on citizens and residents to participate in such voluntary campaigns.”
