Muscat Municipality in cooperation with the Royal Oman Police (ROP) arrested some truck drivers for dumping construction waste in a wadi in Bausher.  

The drivers were arrested for violating provisions of the administrative decision no 55/2017. According to the decision, anyone disposing waste in undesignated areas will be fined RO100. The highest amount of fine (RO1,000) in the decision is for disposing waste in open lands (whether fenced or not), public squares and wadis. 

A statement regarding the incident said that the drivers dumped some construction waste in wadis which is a violation of the municipal order and a hazard to the local environment. ‘Citizens and residents should pay greater attention to waste management. The civic body also emphasised on the need for such laws. Proper disposal of waste is essential for a healthy surrounding. Improper disposal can result in growth of bacteria, virus and rodents,’ it stated.
