The sultanate participated in the 43rd session of the Governing Council of the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) 2020.
It was held under the theme ‘Investing in sustainable food systems to end hunger by 2030’ at the headquarters of the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) in Rome on February 11 and 12.
The sultanate’s delegation was led by H E Dr Ahmed bin Salim ba Omar, Oman’s Ambassador to Italy, with the membership of Fadia el Gamal, technical coordinator for International Organizations in Rome.
The session was attended by the President of the Republic of Mali, a number of ministers of agriculture and representatives of member states and directors of three UN agencies in Rome.
The council discussed the role of the 12th replenishment of the fund’s resources in achieving the goals of sustainable development, rural development and peace promotion, building the
resilience of small holders in the face of climate shocks, and creating job opportunities for young people.
