Under its plan to strengthen services provided in North Sharqiyah, the Ministry of Regional Municipalities and Water Resources (MRMWR) is establishing dams, maintaining aflaj and building slaughterhouses. It is also preparing tender documents for maintenance of aflaj this year.
Speaking to Muscat Daily, an official at MRMWR, said, the ministry has set up an underground recharge dam in Wadi al Oyoun in the wilayat of Mudhaibi. The storage capacity of the dam is 1mn m3. “Maintenance and rehabilitation work for a number of aflaj in the wilayats of Wadi Bani Khalid, Falaj al Khud in the wilayat of Ibra, Falaj al Mudhaibi and Falaj Awf in the wilayat of Dima W’al Taein are also being done. The ministry is also preparing tender documents for maintenance of a number of aflaj in North Sharqiyah in 2020,” said the official.
Among the other services being worked on is a slaughterhouse in Dima W’al Taien, “Currently, a slaughterhouse is being built in Dima W’al Taien, which is 80 per cent complete. The facility includes a slaughter section, a vet room and other sections.”
The ministry also installed 494 lights in different parts of the governorate last year. Talking about other water projects, the official said, “The ministry continues to develop and preserve water resources and has undertaken maintenance works of several aflaj.”
