Ethiopia plans to send domestic workers to Oman, says MoM

29 Dec 2019

The Ethiopian government is planning to start sending domestic workers to Oman amid discussions held in Muscat on signing a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the two countries.

The African country currently has a temporary ban on sending its domestic workers to Oman as well as to other GCC countries.  The Ethiopian Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs led a team of officials to the Ministry of Manpower (MoM) office last week, discussing ways to send domestic workers to Oman.

During the meeting both sides discussed on a draft agreement, which will help in sending Ethiopian domestic workforce to Oman, the Ministry of Manpower stated. The two sides stressed the importance of joint cooperation, which will contribute to facilitating the movement of the workforce and preserving their rights, MoM added.

The Ethiopian side expressed its satisfaction with the regulations in force by MoM, ensuring the protection of its workers’ rights and regulating the labour market.
