To raise awareness on cancer, Sur Club for Cycling, in cooperation with Tourism Administration for South Sharqiyah under the Ministry of Tourism, and Oman Cancer Association, will organise the second edition of Tour of Sur on December 28.
Over 60 riders from countries including Egypt, Britain, Germany, the Philippines, etc will participate in the event, said Nasser Musallam al Araimi, head of Sur Club for Cycling. “The non-stop ride consists of two categories – for professionals and amateurs. The70km ride for professionals will begin at 7am and will be held from Khour al Batah to Ras al Jinz. The 20km race for amateurs will begin at 7.15am and will be held from Khour al Batah to Al Shiyaa area in Sur.”
It aims to spread awareness on cancer, promote tourist sites in the area, and raise importance of sports in the society, he said. “We will honour the contestants and distribute trophies and cash prizes to winners.”
Araimi said the club has organised a number of such events to promote domestic tourism, and create awareness on beach cleanliness. “In 2018, we organised the first tour, with over 50 cyclists participating. We call on Omani youth to take part in such voluntary campaigns for the betterment of the society.”
