Hotel revenues up 8% in the sultanate

Total revenues of hotels in the three-to-five-star category rose by 7.8 per cent to RO177.7mn till the end of October 2019 compared to RO164.9mn in the same period of the previous year, according the National Centre for Statistics and Information. 

However, hotel occupancy rates fell by 6.4 per cent to reach 52.3 per cent at the end of October 2019 against 55.9 per cent in the same period of 2018. 

The total number of guests in the hotels showed a significant increase by 17.6 per cent in the ten-month period of 2019, reaching 1.40mn from 1.19mn in the same period of 2018. Among the nationalities, Europeans constituted the maximum number of visitors, reaching 445,420. This was followed by 438,517 Omani guests and 177,400 Asian tourists till the end of October 2019 period. 

The hotels received 1.49mn guests and generated  RO214.1mn revenues in 2018.
