As part of its plan to restore ancient sites, the Ministry of Heritage and Culture has (MHC) completed the renovation work of Barka castle in South Batinah.
MHC said that maintenance work started on October 1, 2017 and ended on November 30, 2019. ‘All the exterior and interior facades have been restored, in addition to the towers, rooms, the council, the mosque and the main entrance. The castle’s floors too have been restored.’
Barka castle is one of the most popular tourist attractions in South Batinah. It is located between fish and vegetable markets. Barka castle was built in the middle of the 17th century in two phases. The first phase was built during the reign of Saif bin Sultan al Yaraibi and was completed during the reign of Hamad bin Saeed al Busaidi.
